An Extra $400 In 1963 Daryl’s father Marvin headed to the Utah National Convention with the idea of purchasing a foundation Burkgov daughter. It was there Marvin first saw Ideograph Burgov Steps, owned by Ross Gordon. She stood third in her class, and he was thoroughly impressed with her udder, feet and legs and overall dairy quality. The next day, they visited Ross Gordon’s farm, and got to see Steps’ family. “In my opinion they were the best group of animals from one family I have ever seen. Big strong cows with tremendous udders, feet and legs. I knew then if it was at all possible...Steps was coming to Ocean View,” Marvin adds. At the Convention sale a couple days later, Marvin was able to purchase Steps for $2,400...$400 more than his budget, but with some help from his wife...Vivian...and her teacher retirement fund, Steps headed West. The extra $400 it took was the best investment they ever made! Almost any success the herd has had over the years can be traced to Steps.
